Mills & Co acts for marine insurers, shipowners, shipmanagers, shipbuilders, shiprepairers, charterers, commodity traders, marine suppliers, and many others within the shipping industry.

Much of the work is contentious in nature, with the firm representing clients in litigation and in arbitration.

The most common types of dispute handled by the firm are cargo claims, charterparty disputes, sale and purchase disputes, admiralty matters and disputes arising out of the construction and repair of vessels. Beyond that, however, the firm has a very wide experience of dealing with all manner of disputes of a marine nature.

The firm also handles non-contentious shipping work on a regular basis, for example giving advice and assistance to clients who are having a ship built, repaired, bought, sold or chartered, or who perhaps require assistance in drafting standard form terms and conditions of sale or carriage, or shipbuilding or shiprepairing contracts.
